FREE SURFACE FLOW SIMULATION OF 900 OPEN-CHANNEL JUNCTION
(SYNDICATE - 1 )

AIM
1. To simulate flow at a 90° open channel junction and compare numerical model results with physical model results.

SCOPE
2. Comparison of velocity field:-
   a. Velocity in X-direction.
   b. Velocity in Y-direction.
   c. Velocity in Z-direction.
3. Comparison of turbulent kinetic energy.
4. Comparison of re-circulation zone.
5. Use of free software SSIIM from hydraulic department of Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

METHODOLOGY
6. Working with the experimental results.
   a. Simulation of model using simulation of sediment movements in water intakes with multi block option (SSIIM).
   b. Interpretation of results.
   c. Comparison of results.

CONCLUSIONS
7. 3D Numerical simulation of 90° open channel junction has not been under taken in Pakistan in the past:-
   a. Cost of simulation of such flows by physical models can be cut down by numerical simulation using this soft ware.
   b. The software can be used for numerical analysis of various types of hydraulic structures under varying conditions of flow, sedimentation, vegetation etc.
